Army National Guard ROTC Scholarship

Army National Guard ROTC Minuteman Scholarship includes full tuition and fees, $1,200 a year for books and a $420 per month stipend for 10 months of the year. The scholarship can cover up to four years of schooling.

An applicant must be a member of the Army Guard as an officer trainee and be enrolled in an Army ROTC program.

Unlike other ROTC scholarship programs, however, the Minuteman Scholarship allows cadets to combine their scholarship benefits with many other tuition assistance programs -- such as state tuition assistance -- they may be eligible to receive.

These additional benefits are often used by cadets to pay for room, board and other expenses while applying their scholarship to tuition and fees, said Thomas.

Air Force Military Scholarships

When you join the United States Air Force with your high school diploma or GED, you’re automatically enrolled in the Community College of the Air Force. So you’ll automatically begin working toward your associate’s degree in applied science in one of five career areas: aircraft and missile maintenance, electronics and telecommunications, allied health, logistics and resources or public and support services. With a unique combination of on-duty and voluntary off-duty courses, you’ll earn college credit just for reporting for duty, learning your job and getting started on your career.

Navy Scholarships

The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) is a scholarship program that provides full tuition, stipends, summer training cruises and more so you can enjoy a traditional college experience while preparing to serve as a Naval Officer.

If you're interested in earning a college degree while you serve, the Navy offers two options:

Navy College Program (NCP) – This program enables you to receive academic credit for training you receive and work you perform while serving on Active Duty. This includes classes and coursework completed remotely when you’re deployed, including on ships and submarines.
Tuition Assistance (TA) – This program pays up to 100 percent of the cost of courses you take at accredited institutions on your own time, while designated as "off-duty."

Both programs are available to Enlisted Sailors and Officers, but they are typically geared toward Enlisted servicemembers who do not yet have a college degree. For more information, go to the Navy College Program site.

Marines Scholarships

As Marines,

we take the necessary steps to ensure we know more today than we did yesterday, so that our Nation can also continuously advance. The Marine Corps ensures all Marines have the means to achieve a higher education through the following programs:

TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

While you’re on active duty, 100% of your tuition is covered at accredited institutions, up to $225 per college credit and/or $4500 per year. The Tuition Assistance Program is available at any duty station and participating can even help you earn bonus points toward promotion. To continue receiving these benefits, Marines must maintain a "C" average while enrolled.

ADVANCED DEGREE PROGRAM (ADP)

Through the ADP, Marines who have already earned an undergraduate degree can receive partial funding for the cost of pursuing a master’s degree. Will attending graduate school full time, Marines will receive their regular pay and allowances.

Military College, Academies, and ROTC

Military Colleges

Below is a list of a variety of different kinds of military colleges available in the United States, from junior two-year colleges to the federal military academies. Services Academies by the Numbers from Today's Military website.

Military Junior Colleges (ROTC)

Five institutions are considered Military junior colleges. These four schools participate in the Army's two-year Early Commissioning Program (ECP), an Army ROTC program in which qualified students can earn a commission as a Second Lieutenant after only two years of college. The four Military Junior Colleges are:

•   Valley Forge Military Academy and College in Wayne, Pennsylvania
•   New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, in New Mexico
•   Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama
•   Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Georgia)

State-Supported Maritime Colleges and Universities

Students at these academies are military academy cadets, and graduate with appropriate licenses from the U.S. Coast Guard and/or U.S. Merchant Marine, with an option to become a commissioned reserve officers with the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, or the U.S. Marine Corps.
