Connections students and families;

Here at Connections, we have been working hard to ensure that our students can access hybrid learning and return to school safely for Quarter Four! We are following the Ready Schools Safe Learners guidance to ensure that we have a safe, sanitary, and physically distanced learning environment for each of our students to join in-person learning 2 days per week.

You may have seen communication from Salem Keizer School District regarding reopening schools; but Connections is smaller and a little different, so while we are aligned with all the protocols and systems the district is offering and requiring, we also get to make some small changes in order to support students!

Connections Schedules

We know that sending your student back to school for In-Person learning is exciting and also may come with some questions and concerns. There are many important protocols we are following to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students and our staff. Some key practices are:

  • Each person in the building will wear a mask or face covering while inside the building.
  • Each learning station is 6 feet from another person, and all classrooms have limited capacity.
  • Students will bring their own Chromebook or device each day they are in person.
  • Sanitizing and disinfecting of all learning stations happen between classes, and all touchpoints are sanitized throughout the day, and custodial sanitizes each night.
  • Contact tracing, attendance, and movement within the building is closely monitored

To learn more about the processes and systems of reopening schools, how Connections will be running our schedules, or if you have additional questions, please join us for an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 6th at 7:00pm via the following Zoom link:

                   Frequently Asked Questions:

What do all the terms mean?

Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) is when students are receiving their instruction online (Zoom)- this what school has looked like for quarters 1-3.

In Person Learning is when students are on campus and receiving instruction from a classroom and a live teacher- we are moving to 2 days of in-person learning a week.

Applied Learning is when a student is completing online work through Canvas without an assigned class or meeting time- students will have 2 days of applied learning a week.

Hybrid Learning is when a student is receiving a mix of In-Person and Distance or Applied Learning- As we re-open schools for Q4, we are opening in Hybrid Learning.

Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) is a targeted support or study hall for some students, it is     voluntary and is not how students receive their instruction- this is optional.

Can my students attend on Mondays?

We are not offering any student support or direct instruction on Mondays at this time.

Are there in-person classes on Wednesdays and Fridays?

We are offering Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) 2 times on Wednesdays and Fridays, students may elect to come in for one or more sessions. They need to sign up with their advisor for a time slot. During LIPI students can work on their Applied Learning on Canvas, make progress on credit recovery, work on an SKO class, get additional support or tutoring, etc.

LIPI does not replace the assigned classes and instruction each student is required to attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

How can my student get to school on In-Person Learning Days (Tuesdays/Thursdays)?

If students do not have access to a car or a ride, and are not close enough to walk/bike, –

Cherriots (the city bus) is still running routes and are free to ride. Some routes are limited, and physical distancing is required.

What if I do not want my student to return to In-Person Learning and I want them to stay in CDL?

First, contact the school administrator to discuss your concerns about returning to school. All Connections classes and instruction will be delivered in-person on Tuesdays and Thursdays for Q4. SKO and EDGE will continue to offer online options for students.

Can my student still get meals on Applied Learning and Student Support Days?

Yes! Riverfront will be offering meals to students (Breakfast and Lunch) as a grab and go option, and students will be able to access meals from Grab and Go sites that are closer to their homes. Check the district website for a list of those sites.
